The first email to a college coach has one job: help the coach decide the athlete is worth watching.
Start with the subject line
Name, grad year and position belong in the subject line, so the coach knows who is writing before opening the email. More on that in What to Put in the Subject Line When You Email a College Coach.
Do your research
Include something specific to that program and why the school is a fit. Coaches can tell when the same email went to 50 schools with the name swapped.
Tell the coach where to watch
Include the next tournament and the dates. If the coach will be there, send the schedule too.
Include film
Add links to highlight film.
Check the details
Before hitting send, confirm the spelling of the coach’s name and the email address. An email sent to the wrong address never gets delivered.
